State Visit to Russia
Moscow & St. Petersburg 6-9 September 2011
On the occasion of the State Visit by Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness The Prince Consort and His Royal Highness The Crown Prince
RUSSIA
Despite the global financial crisis, Russia has already shown the rest of the world that it is recovering significantly faster than most other countries in the west.
The crisis made the Russian politicians aware that they needed something more than just oil. They discovered that in order to save the economy, they had to differentiate it – in other words they needed foreign investors.
Thus, since the financial crisis Russia has been taking step towards turning the country into an attractive export market, relieving themselves from their dependency of oil and other natural resources. With GPD growth reaching 4 per cent last year the effects are already showing, and the economy is expected to show continued growth during the next years.
In 2010, Danish exports to Russia reached DKK 9.3 billion, making Russia Denmark’s 14th biggest export market. The steady increase in Danish export is largely attributed to a greater demand for consumer goods, but also a demand for better infrastructure solutions. There are strong indications that these demands will continue in the years to come. This is due to the large increase in the private consumption.
